Laparoscopic Adjustable gastric banding Limits Food

Adjustable gastric banding limits food intake by placing a constricting ring completely around the stomach below the junction of the stomach and esophagus.
Today, gastric bands are placed through laparoscopic surgery, decreasing wound complication rates and time spent in hospital to less then one day (over 95% are done as outpatient surgery.

The laparoscopic adjustable gastric band is a useful tool in the treatment of severe obesity.
Late complications of laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding are relatively common; however, they can be readily treated in most cases.

Since these procedures do not involve an intestinal bypass, laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB) is a procedure which induces weight loss solely through the restriction of food. Excess weight loss with the laparoscopic adjustable gastric band is lower than that with the gastric bypass or malabsorptive procedures.
